Sin dai tempi antichi, gli esseri umani sono stati ossessionati dalla previsione del futuro, e l’intelligenza artificiale generata dagli algoritmi delle colonie di formiche ha reso possibili previsioni precise come quelle del demone di Laplace. In futuro, l’agricoltura verticale sarà in grado di controllare la crescita di tutte le colture tramite algoritmi, prevedendo ogni secondo della respirazione delle piante. La storia descrive un drone dotato di intelligenza artificiale che si occupa della crescita della canna da zucchero, il cui compito è quello di eliminare tutti i fattori accidentali e favorire la crescita delle piante, anche se gli esseri umani si sono estinti da tempo. In questo momento, l’apparizione di una formica ricorda improvvisamente al drone la sua prima pattuglia, in un’era successiva al crollo del collettivismo nel XX secolo, quando uno zuccherificio fu distrutto da un comportamento predittivo preciso e globalizzato.

Since ancient times, humans have been obsessed with predicting the future, and artificial intelligence spawned by ant colony algorithms has made Laplace‘s demon-like precise predictions possible. In the future, vertical farming will be able to bring the growth of all crops under algorithmic control, predicting every second of a plant‘s respiration. The story describes an artificial intelligence drone caring for the growth of sugarcane, its duty is to eliminate all accidental factors and nurture plant growth, even though humans have long been extinct. At this moment, the appearance of an ant suddenly reminds the drone of its first patrol, in an era after the collapse of collectivism in the 20th century, a sugar mill destroyed by globalized precise predictive behavior.

Cao Shu

Cao Shu insegna alla China Academy of Art e la sua pratica artistica comprende, ma non si limita a, arte dei nuovi media, immagini digitali 3D in movimento, installazioni sonore e giochi interattivi. Le sue opere sono spesso basate su un luogo e uno spazio specifici e pongono domande aperte. Egli spera di riattivare eventi storici o ricordi personali a livello percettivo attraverso esperimenti con diversi materiali e media. Negli ultimi anni, Cao Shu è stato artista residente presso l’Atelier Mondial di Basilea (2017), lo Yokohama Koganecho Bazzaar Art Festival (2019) e il Goethe Institut (2020). Le sue opere hanno vinto premi come il 2022 OCAT x KADIST Emerging Media Artist Award, il 2021 Exposure Award di PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai, il 2015 New Narrative Award della Long Week of Short Films e il 2017 BISFF Award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement. Le sue opere sono state esposte in musei d’arte di tutto il mondo, come Kunsthausbaselland, By Art Matters, UCCA Dune, Macao Art Museum, Beijing Minsheng Art Museum, OCAT Shanghai e Shenzhen, Sleep Center New York, X Museum Beijing, Die Sammlung Falckenberg Hall Hamburg. Le sue opere sono state acquisite dalla Kadist Art Foundation, dall’Australian White Rabbit Art Gellary, dalla Blue Mountain Contemporary Art Foundation, dallo Zhejiang Art Museum, ecc.

Cao Shu’s teaching at China Academy of Art, his practice includes but is not limited to new media art, 3D digital moving image, sound installation, and interactive games. His works are often based on a specific place and space and ask open-ended questions. He hopes to reactivate historical events or personal memory at the perceptual level through experiments with different materials and media. In recent years, Cao Shu has been residency artist at Atelier Mondial in Basel(2017), Yokohama Koganecho Bazzaar Art Festival (2019),Goethe Institutes(2020). His works have won such awards as 2022 OCAT x KADIST Emerging Media Artist Award, 2021 Exposure Award of PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai,2015 New Narrative Award from the Long Week of Short Films,and 2017 BISFF Award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement.
