Ha studiato all’Eton College ed al Magdalen College di Oxford. È noto soprattutto per la sua interpretazione di Gaio Ottaviano nella seconda stagione della serie televisiva Rome e per il personaggio di Charles Bingley nel film Orgoglio e pregiudizio del 2005. Nel 2007 ha impersonato il dottor Harrison nella serie in costume Cranford. Nel 2019 ha fatto il suo esordio come drammaturgo con il dramma Hansard in scena al National Theatre per la regia di Simon Godwin.

He is best known for his portrayal of Gaius Octavius in the second season of the television series Rome and for his role as Charles Bingley in the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice. In 2007, he played Dr Harrison in the costume drama series Cranford. In 2019, he made his debut as a playwright with the drama Hansard, staged at the National Theatre and directed by Simon Godwin.
